Krunal Pandya, who last represented India in international cricket during the T20I series against Sri Lanka in 2021, was once again in contention for a return to the national team following his impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
India are set to face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, beginning on September 13. All three matches are scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The T20 World Cup champions, however, have struggled for consistency in recent series. India endured disappointing tours of Ireland and England, suffering 0-2 and 0-4 series defeats respectively. The poor performances also resulted in several unwanted records and raised concerns among the selectors.
Although India secured a T20I series victory against Zimbabwe, the defeats to Ireland and England highlighted the need for changes. Reports from The Times of India suggested that Krunal Pandya was being considered as a possible replacement for Axar Patel against Afghanistan.
However, when India’s squad was announced, Axar Patel retained his place, while Krunal Pandya was once again left out of the national team.
