From the early years of Pakistani cricket to the modern era, the country’s seamers have consistently exploited England’s pace-friendly conditions. The latest chapter in Pakistan’s Test history unfolded during the second Test of the ongoing series, where the team’s bowling attack delivered an impressive performance despite their struggles with the bat. Experienced pacer Mohammad Abbas eventually etched his name into the record books with a landmark achievement at Lord’s.
Abbas secured a place on the Lord’s Honours Board after registering a five-wicket haul against England in the second innings of the second Test. The milestone had eluded him on three previous occasions at the iconic venue, where he had recorded figures of 4/23, 4/41 and 4/73.
With his latest performance, Abbas also equaled Waqar Younis’ record of 17 Test wickets at Lord’s, the joint-most by a Pakistani pacer at the venue.
Abbas now has eight five-wicket hauls in Test cricket, with six coming against different opponents. He had previously spoken about his ambition to feature on the prestigious Honours Board, but had to wait eight years to fulfill that goal.
Over the past 34 years, Pakistan have produced several renowned Test pacers, including Wasim Akram, Mohammad Asif, Abdur Razzaq and Shaheen Afridi. However, at Lord’s, only Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Abbas have claimed a five-wicket haul in a Test innings for Pakistan since 1992.
Amir achieved the feat during Pakistan’s 2010 tour of England, taking 6/84 and becoming the fifth Pakistani bowler to accomplish the milestone at Lord’s.
Abbas’ achievement in 2026 made him the seventh Pakistani bowler overall and only the fifth pacer to claim a five-wicket haul in a Test innings at the historic venue.
